The UK government is facing criticism for proposing mandatory photo ID for voting despite no proven cases of in-person voter impersonation in 2022, alienating 2 million people who just want to cast a ballot.
Ministers are facing renewed accusations that imposing mandatory photo ID for voting in UK elections is a waste of time and resources.
This comes after stats showed no proven case of in-person voter impersonation in 2022. Indeed, data from the Electoral Commission on elections in 2022 show only seven allegations of “personation” at polling stations. However, there was no action by police in any of these cases due to insufficient evidence or no evidence of wrongdoing.
