H uw Edwards, the suspended News at Ten presenter, may be off air for several months as the BBC conducts an internal investigation into the allegations against him.
In addressing the House of Lords communications committee, BBC Director General Tim Davie said that the investigation is expected to extend into the autumn. Despite two police forces finding no criminal case against Edwards, the corporation intends to thoroughly examine the claims made against him.
Edwards was taken off air after the Sun published allegations that he had paid £35,000 to an individual with a drug addiction in exchange for explicit images. However, the tabloid later retracted its implication that Edwards had committed a criminal offence.
