France to distribute survival guide amid rising crisis threats

Inspired by Sweden, the French government will send a survival manual to every household, preparing citizens for war, disasters, and emergencies.

The French government plans to distribute a survival guide to all households by summer. Modelled on Sweden’s approach, the 20-page booklet will outline essential steps to take in the event of war, natural disasters, or health crises. The aim is to boost public resilience and ensure people can manage independently for a few days in a major crisis.

Divided into three sections, it explains how to stay safe, respond to emergencies, and join civic reserves. It also lists a “survival kit” with essentials such as bottled water, tinned food, and emergency supplies. The guide uses pictograms to make key instructions easy to understand, including emergency contacts and steps to take during a nuclear accident or power outage.

While awaiting final approval from the Prime Minister, this initiative reflects the government’s push to prepare citizens for any eventuality. It also highlights growing security concerns, particularly with heightened fears over Russia, prompting France to rethink its approach to national preparedness.
