Gemini Trains eyes bold bid to break Eurostar’s monopoly

A new player, Gemini Trains, challenges Eurostar with bold plans for London-Paris-Brussels rail routes via the Channel Tunnel.

A fresh rival to Eurostar is preparing to enter the high-speed rail scene. Gemini Trains, chaired by House of Lords member Lord Berkeley, has unveiled plans to launch passenger services through the Channel Tunnel, linking London with Paris and Brussels. They also propose reviving Ebbsfleet station in Kent—abandoned by Eurostar in 2020—as a potential stop.

With aspirations to expand across Europe, Gemini promises “great value fares” and a “customer first” approach.

At Gemini Trains, our aim is to change the face of European rail travel. We believe that an unashamed ‘customer first’ service culture, coupled with great value fares and truly innovative offerings, will help reinvigorate rail travel.
— Gemini Trains wants to compete with Eurostar and break its monopoly.

The company aims to break Eurostar’s monopoly, citing a “significant opportunity” for a more dynamic, competitively priced service.

We believe there is a significant opportunity for a dynamic and innovative operator offering mixed ‘economy’ and ‘business’ seats at a competitive price to Eurostar.

Their announcement aligns with Getlink’s (formerly Groupe Eurotunnel) goal to double cross-Channel connections within a decade. As rail competition intensifies across Europe, Gemini’s arrival could spark a new era of affordable, diverse train travel.
